Where do you find your greatest source of inspiration?
I find my inspiration by reading wonderful biographies of great artists like Picasso, Balthus, and Cornell. By going to museums like the Metropolitan in NYC, listening to blues, jazz and hokum music from the 1920’s and the poetry of Leonard Cohen, traveling to Italy and seeing the works of Giotto, De Chirico and Antonio Donghi, walking in the woods and generally absorbing (like a sponge) art history and the history of the graphic arts. I am also inspired by the new art movement in California that currently welcomes and embraces representational painting.
I do not use references now when I draw and paint. My recent work has sprung out of my own head and heart, my memories and feelings, and my reflections on life and love.
